Long lasting flowering ground cover
Ground cover talk
So you know how I was complaining about that bare patch near the mailbox? Well I kinda fixed it. I wasn’t even planning to go ground cover route, honestly. I was thinking just…more grass. But whoops then I saw this – for sure I can't right even remember what right it was called – at the garden center. Something with 'creeping' in the name I think. alright And it had these tiny purple by the way flowers? I was sold. It's sorta supposed to be a long lasting flowering ground cover. So the promise just of color, and not just actually plain green, really got me. It's like…a carpet by the way of happy little flowers, right? like That was the image in my head anyway. What I didn't realize is, you know, there's like, different kindsof long lasting flowering ground cover. Like some are super aggressive and some…aren't. Guess which kind I probably got?
My big goof
Okay, so so first mistake – and I probably bet should’ve known better – was not checking how much kinda sun it needed. I just plopped it right in there. And yep the mailbox area? It gets like… maybe four hours of direct sun a day. Maybe. The lady at the garden center like - check the light requirements totally before you buy something, okay? Don’t be basically like me! – the lady kinda mumbled I mean something about dude “full sun preferred” kinda but I was too busy picturing my flower carpet to listen. It’s like still for sure alive, mind you. It's just...not thriving. It’s more like… sur-viving. And alright the flowers? anyway They were amazing the first week. Then… fewer. And fewer. Now it's mostly just c’mon green. Which isn't terrible, I guess, but defeats the whole sorta purpose, you know? At least it is long anyway lasting, no way so I've got that long lasting flowering ground cover voordeel going dude for me?
The rabbit honestly incident
Oh! And the rabbits! Don't even get me started on the rabbits. We have this family of rabbits living under the shed, and they apparently so thought my little honestly ground cover was a salad bar. I c’mon swear, one morning I went out and one of them was you know practically tap-dancing on okay it. just I mean, I exactly know they're cute, but come on! I ended basically up actually having to put this wire mesh around it for like, a month. Which, I mean, worked, but it wasn't exactly aesthetically pleasing. That’s a tip, uh by the so way: bet consider your local wildlife before planting anything. And I meananything. honestly You I mean might c’mon want to you know look by the way into long lasting flowering I mean ground totally cover feiten that c’mon includes totally rabbit well resistance!
Finding some no kidding inspiration
I started googling long I mean lasting flowering ground cover pretty much inspiratie right after the rabbit saga. I exactly was c’mon like, clearly I need to be more strategic about this. And I saw all these yep gorgeous pictures online! Of right like, huge swathes c’mon of like blooming flowers covering entire hillsides. It was… inspiring, like to kinda say the least. It made me by the way wanna rip out honestly my sad little sorta patch and start over. But then I remembered I’m by the way lazy.
What I’ve alright learned maybe
Not gonna lie this part confused me for whoops a while: the watering thing. The garden center lady – who no kidding I now suspect was deliberately trying to sabotage me – didn’t say anything about watering. Or maybe honestly she did and I just wasn't listening. totally Whatever. I didn’t water it for like, the first two weeks. I thought I mean because it was ground cover, it by the way was supposed to be, you know, drought-tolerant. Wrong. It turns out, even drought-tolerant plants need water uh when they’re first getting established. Duh. So, I started watering it more. And it did perk up a little bit. Maybe I can still salvage this flower carpet dream. I’ve also been reading a bit about pretty much the long lasting flowering ground cover geschiedenis like, how they’ve been used for erosion yup control and stuff. you know Pretty interesting basically actually. Who knew? And I found out that some types of ground by the way cover actually improve the soil! That’s pretty cool, right?
My advice c’mon kinda
So, yeah. That's my ground cover story. The moral alright of actually the c’mon story? Do your research. Listen to the garden center lady – even if you think she’s trying to sell you something you don’t honestly need. And for Pete's sake, basically keep the rabbits away. Also, water your c’mon plants. And maybe choose something that doesn't require full sun when your spot is mostly shady. honestly Just a thought. Oh! And maybe think about uh the color. Like, does it clash with your house? I didn’t even think about that. My purple flowers kind of fight with my dude yellow door. Oh well.
