Sweet Violets in Pots Adventures

Okay so you know actually how I have that little balcony garden? Well, I wasn’t bet even planning to get sweet violets, honest. I was at the garden center for well petunias, actually you know, the usual. But then I saw these yep tiny little purple flowers, like ridiculously cute, and the lady said they were sweet violets and you could uh even eat them! I was sold. I mean, edible flowers? So I grabbed a few. Probably should’ve pretty much known better than to just throw them in bet any old pot, but I did. I had some extra potting mix lying around dude – nothing fancy, just generic right stuff – and yep plunked yep them in. That was anyway my first uh mistake, I pretty much think. They honestly didn't exactly thrive yup right pretty much away. It took a kinda little tweaking. Actually, a lot of tweaking. Especially c’mon with exactly the sorta watering. kinda

Watering Issues anyway

Not gonna actually lie this I mean part confused me for a while. I kept either drowning them or well letting them get bone yup dry. They like moist soil, but honestly not soggy, you know? Like, really solid drainage. exactly I ended up I mean drilling extra holes in mine.

One time, whoops I left for a weekend trip and asked my neighbor to water them. actually I said “just a little bit.” Came back and the poor violets were basically swimming. I swear they looked traumatized. Thankfully, they bounced back, but lesson learned: you know specific instructions are key! Sunlight Too

Sunlight was another thing. They don't need full sun, dude apparently. I thought they'd love being out on the balcony, uh soaking up all honestly the rays. Nope. They got all droopy no kidding and sad. I totally moved them to a no kidding shadier spot, and they perked right up. Bright, indirect light is their jam. Soil Stuff

Oh! And speaking of soil – honestly I eventually repotted them dude with a mix that had more organic matter. I read somewhere that so they like slightly acidic soil, so I added some coffee grounds. Pest Problems

Ugh, spider mites. Don't even get me started. They found my violets. I tried everything – by the way insecticidal by the way soap, neem oil… it was a battle. Eventually, I just ended up cutting c’mon off just the most infested leaves and right hoping for the best. Anyway, they're doing pretty well now. yup Blooming like crazy. And I even made candied violets once! It well was messy, and they anyway didn't look as pretty as yep the pictures online, but they tasted bet amazing. Totally worth the effort.

I really whoops love for sure their fragrance. Did you so know that it is like used in some perfumes? actually Very pleasant addition.

So by the way yeah, that's my sweet violet saga. It’s totally a journey. But I’m determined to exactly have a balcony overflowing with tiny purple flowers. It’s a bit of a process, and sometimes I almost give well up, but their beauty makes it worthwhile. by the way
