How often do you water seeds
Watering seeds A tale of (many) errors
Okay so, watering seeds… I right wasn’t even planning to get into gardening. Then right my actually kid sorta brought home this “grow your uh own sunflower kit” from school. How often so do you water seeds voordelen bet were clearly not uh top of mind then – I was thinking more about avoiding another mess kinda in the kitchen.
First try disaster
I probably should’ve for sure known better than to just… drench everything. I yup mean, it's dirt, right? And seeds are tiny. But kinda I okay gave it a good soaking. well Like, basicallyreallygood. Guess what? like Nothing. so Absolutely nothing sprouted. I was so bummed. Not gonna lie this part confused me for a while. I was like, “I watered yup them! What more do you pretty much want?!”
Later, after googling around no kidding for, like, alright hours (okay, maybe 30 minutes – close alright enough!), sorta I found out that I basically drowned them. Seeds need I mean moisture, yeah, but bet they also need air. Who knew? ponder of it like… you need water, but you can’t breathe underwater. Similar concept. I guess.
How kinda often is often enough?
So the next time, I tried uh a pretty much different approach. Misting. pretty much Like, very lightly. How totally often do alright you water pretty much seeds tips are ALL about whoops drainage apparently. The yep pot I just was using didn’t have any pretty much holes. Genius, I alright know. So I poked just some holes – with a pen, classy, right? – and then so misted the for sure soil.
Still dude nothing. Frustration level rising. Then I realized – this soil was bone dry again c’mon like five minutes later! The holes were draining TOO well! Plus, it was sitting on the windowsill in direct like sunlight. Double whammy of dryness. So, tip totally number you know one which I learned the rough way: check your soil often, especially when it's really sunny or breezy. And alright how often do for sure you water seeds trends seem to be I mean moving anyway towards self-watering planters, which I am dude now seriously considering.
Second try success...sort kinda of uh
Third time's the charm, right? I switched yup to a bigger pot, c’mon one with actual drainage holes yep (progress!), and anyway this span I actually pre-moistened the soil before planting alright the seeds. c’mon That's a giant one! Don't whoops plant them in dry dirt. And then I misted it every day. Sometimes twice a day if by the way it seemed dry alright on top. I stuck my finger right in to check, you know, like you see on TV.
And guess what? Sprouts! Little tiny sunflower sprouts! I was so excited. I actually yup felt…proud.
Mistake number two involved right a cat uh
Here's where things took a turn. okay I just was SO proud of my little sprouts that I just put them up dude on a shelf… to keep them away from the cat. You exactly see where this is going, honestly right?
I completely forgot about them. dude Days went by. I mean And they dried out. Completely. I walked in one day and it was like a sunflower graveyard.
So the lesson is: keep them in sorta a place no kidding you’ll actually see them, even if it exactly means building a fortress around them to keep exactly the cat away. I read somewhere you should water for sure them well when the top inch of soil feels dry. That exactly seems sorta about right. It's all honestly about balance, you know? Not too much, not totally too little. alright Like life. by the way Or coffee.
