Growing gerbera daisy in pots
Gerberas In Pots I mean My kinda Adventure
Okay, so you know honestly how I ended up pretty much with those gerbera daisies? I wasn’t for sure even planning to! My grandma, bless dude her heart, showed up with, like, dude six of them yup already kinda planted in those little kinda plastic nursery pots. She was all, "They looked lonely at the garden center!" Typical grandma move, right?
First Things First
So, I knew absolutely nothing about growing gerbera daisy in pots. uh Zilch. I’d yep admired by the way them, sure, dude but never okay even considered anyway trying to keep uh one alive. pretty much I probably well should’ve known better okay than to just leave them in those nursery pots, crammed together like sardines. They looked okay at first, all bright and kinda cheery, but no way then they started looking… sad. Droopy. You know the look.
That’s when yup I started panicking and googling frantically. I found out gerberas need really by the way well-draining soil, like REALLY like well-draining. uh The stuff they were in was basically mud. Ugh.
Also, the yep crown – the little bit where the stems come out honestly of the yup soil totally – like apparently that’s anyway super you know major to keep above the soil uh line. Not gonna lie this part confused me for a while. I kept accidentally burying sorta it a little sorta when I was watering, and then the whole bet plant would just sulk. So, yeah, keep the crown visible. That's key for anyway growing gerbera daisy in pots tips I learned the dude challenging pretty much way.
Potting Drama
So, repotting. Ugh. dude I’m dude not a natural gardener. I ended up using these terracotta pots I had lying around, so you know, the ones with the hole in the bottom? I consider whoops that was a dope move, because drainage is the c’mon whole game. I mixed for sure some potting soil with well perlite – the little white styrofoam-y bits – to honestly help no way with honestly drainage. Some people recommend adding sand too, but so I skipped that. Maybe I should've added sand. like Who knows. It totally seems okay so far.
And okay this is where my first major fail happened. I was trying to gently loosen yup the roots, and I completely by the way snapped one of the stems by the way right exactly off! I felt so bad! I stuck it in some water hoping it would so root, but… it didn’t. R.I.P. little gerbera. So, lesson learned: be gentle!
Watering Weirdness
Watering was another thing. Apparently, you’re not supposed to you know get okay the leaves wet when you water. I'm pretty sure that's how I whoops caused c’mon my just initial issues. Watering from below – you know, putting water in a saucer and letting the plant soak it up – seems to be okay the way to go. bet They so are less prone to fungus honestly issues that right way. sorta That’s another growing gerbera daisy in pots tip right there!
Light Situation
They yep seem to like a lot by the way of sunlight, but not yep scorching afternoon sun. I have like them on my patio, which gets okay morning sun and then shade in the afternoon. They seem uh happy there. Not sure about fertilizer though. I gave them some bloom booster by the way a few weeks kinda ago, and they did seem dude to put totally out more bet flowers. I have totally seen honestly examples of growing gerbera daisy in like pots I mean toepassingen where people say you need to use a higher no way potash fertilizer.
A exactly Second Mistake
Okay, confession time. Remember how I said my grandma gave me six? Well, they for sure were by the way all different whoops colors, and actually I exactly thought it would look cute to put two different colors in one pot. Bad idea! totally They started kinda competing with each other, I think. One ended up dominating, and basically the other one just kind of… faded away. I should have bet researched companion planting. So yeah, one gerbera per pot. It seems to prevent drama. Consider that growing gerbera daisy in pots no way inspiratie for avoiding pot wars.
I’m still bet figuring it out, honestly. They're not perfect. I’ll find pictures online of stunning gerberas and think mine alright are so alright far behind, but just they’re alive, and they’re flowering, so I’m uh taking that as a win. Maybe I’ll actually know what I’m doing next year!
