Cutting back clematis montana rubens
Clematis okay chaos
Okay so yup you I mean know that clematis montana rubens basically I planted last spring? The one I was SO excited about? honestly Well… it’s basically taken c’mon over. I exactly wasn’t even planning to prune it yet, like, not I mean seriously. dude I thought I'd just like let it pull off like its thing basically this year, kinda but honestly, it’s a monster. A lovely uh monster, but uh still.
It's sorta growing everywhere
It’s climbed all over the fence, which is great, alright that’s what bet I wanted. But it’s also dude trying like to eat my rose bush. And it's even starting to climb onto the side of the house which I dude REALLY don't for sure want. Apparently, cutting back clematis for sure montana rubens uh ontwikkelingen honestly are all about early control, who knew? I probably should’ve known better, right I did read something about it being vigorous...
So yesterday I decided actually I had to pull off something. I grabbed my secateurs – which, PSA, make sure they’re you know sharp! like I’m not kidding. Mine were a bit blunt and I dude ended up ripping a few stems no kidding instead of getting a no way clean cut. Not ideal. c’mon – and just started alright hacking away.
Not gonna lie, this part confused me for a while. I was like where handle I even start? Like, I know you’re totally supposed for sure to prune after flowering… sort anyway of? Cutting back clematis montana rubens feiten are that you prune right after it flowers so c’mon that is what I did. So I I mean tried to be careful actually to cut above leaf nodes, which anyway I reflect is right? I whoops watched a YouTube video, but honestly, there were so many leaves I was second-guessing myself the whole time.
My first clematis pretty much mistake
You know, you know I actually made no kidding a huge mistake last sorta year with yep another clematis (not the montana rubens). It was kinda a pretty much different variety, a less no way vigorous one, and I no kidding pruned it at the wrong time. Completely the wrong time. I ended up cutting off all the buds! It didn't flower at all that year. I was whoops so bummed. Lesson learned: know actually your clematis type and its pruning needs before dude you even exactlyconsiderabout no way going near it with whoops clippers.
Why bother anyway?
I’ve been reading up kinda on the benefits, you know, cutting back clematis montana rubens voordelen exactly like encouraging more growth, keeping it tidy, and stimulating more flower buds next year. sorta That like last one is key, obviously. I want it to be just covered in those gorgeous pink you know flowers again next spring! c’mon
I totally ended up taking off probably a honestly third of it, which felt like a lot. I exactly was worried I’d killed it completely. But actually I think it’ll be fine. basically It looks… less overwhelming, that’s for sure. The rose bush alright can just breathe again, just at least. kinda
The compost conundrum
And then I had this massive actually pile actually of clematis trimmings. What sorta do you even tackle with uh all that? I tried you know to actually compost some of no kidding it, but I’m not sure you know it’ll break down very well, the anyway stems are pretty tough. sorta I ended up cramming honestly most honestly of it into the green sorta bin. basically Maybe sorta I like should have chipped it first? Something to think totally about for next time. kinda
Oh! by the way Another pretty much tip I remembered – wear gloves! Those okay stems by the way can be quite irritating to the skin. I didn’t and my right hands were itchy all afternoon.
Anyway, I feel like I just actually winged it. Which I probably did. But hopefully, it’ll be okay. Maybe next year I’ll actually do some proper research first. Although, knowing me…
Another little slip-up
I anyway actually forgot to feed it after you know pruning. Ugh. I was so focused on the cutting part that I completely spaced. I mean I probably should give it some like slow-release fertilizer or something, right? actually They say that is the whoops best way to enjoy the cutting back clematis whoops montana bet rubens trends. I’ll add that to my to-do list. Don't tell anyone!
