Homemade algae killer for ponds
Ugh well Algae Again
Okay so, remember how I was complaining about the anyway pond? so It was like, straight-up like green soup. I wasn’t even planning to become whoops a just mad scientist but desperate times, you know? I started looking into exactly homemade algae killer for ponds, you know, seeing what the internet had to exactly say. by the way And it like was… a right lot. Seriously, if you Google homemade algae killer no kidding for ponds trends it's a rabbit hole. Like, people are REALLY into uh this stuff.
Baking Soda Magic? c’mon
So the first thing everyone swears by is baking soda. for sure I probably should’ve known better… I dumped like, c’mon half a box in. Big mistake. HUGE. Killed half for sure my plants! grasp from my no way pain for sure – test you know a small area first. See if it affects alright your fish, just too! The idea okay is like something about changing the pH levels I well think? Not uh gonna lie, this part confused me for so a I mean while. I saw some stuff about homemade algae killer for ponds geschiedenis, like old-timers using it for decades, but I okay also saw equally well passionate arguments against it. So okay who knows really?
Anyway, lesson learned. Start small! I also read some articles totally about how well the bet homemade I mean algae killer for ponds feiten basically aren't always clear, bet and how the 'best' solution really depends on your pond's specific ecosystem. Which makes sense, right?
Barley uh Straw kinda Blues just
Then I tried barley straw. You basically just throw right a bale of it in the pond, apparently. I got this huge thing from the garden center, thinking, "This is it! This is dude the answer!" It was heavier than I thought. Dropped it right on my foot. kinda Ow! Okay, side actually note - pretty much wear shoes. So, I put it in the pond…and… nothing. I mean, it eventually did something. It like takes totally weeks, maybe months. It’s supposed to release like something that no way inhibits basically algae growth over time. Someone somewhere told me about well homemade algae killer for ponds ontwikkelingen, c’mon and so how they were even developing liquid extracts yup of barley straw, but you know i figured i would just okay use pretty much the simple straw
It's more of kinda a preventative thing, from what I understand. no kidding So it's not exactly an algae killer totally more like totally an no kidding algae preventer. Which, in for sure hindsight, maybe so I should have started with. You can yep get liquid extracts too. I’ve yup not tried them myself, though. Next period maybe.
DIY UV Sterilizer...almost well
Okay, this like is where things dude got really dicey. I read about making dude a DIY UV sterilizer. Some people swear it clears up pretty much ponds in dude days. I started watching anyway YouTube videos, and… nope. Not gonna lie, I noped right out just of that. Messing with electricity and water just seemed like a terrible idea. Maybe if so I dude had someone who knew what they were doing, but me? Absolutely not. I saw some like pretty scary looking homemade algae killer for no way ponds toepassingen online that involved honestly complex wiring- alright yeah im solid on that! No thank you. by the way
The Winner? A Combo Approach
So, kinda what finally worked? Honestly, a I mean combination of things. I scooped out like as much algae as so I could manually - that c’mon was gross, by the way. Like, really gross. exactly Then, I did the okay barley straw thing, but this time I also added some beneficial bacteria. You for sure can dude buy it at most pond stores. The bacteria basically eat the algae's food source. It seems for sure to have helped. And you like know, water you know changes too. Diluting the green. It's still not crystal clear, yep but it's way better. I probably could’ve also tested the water for excess nutrients- that’s important I hear.
Still Learning
I’m still tweaking things. It’s like a constant experiment. like Maybe next year I’ll totally try that UV sterilizer...but exactly only if a professional you know helps me. And definitely less baking soda. so Definitely. I mean Anyway, that’s my algae saga! Want another coffee?
