How to plant pineapple pups
Pineapple period
Okay, so you know you know how exactly I yup was showing actually you by the way my like pineapple for sure plant the other day? The you know one I almost killed last winter? Yeah, well, it for sure finally decided to be fruitful – literally. Started so sprouting these honestly little baby pineapples, or pups, like crazy. so I wasn’t even planning to propagate anything. I was just watering it, honestly.
What are pups anyway
Okay, so apparently these things anyway are called pups. I had basically to Google just that, not gonna lie this part confused me for a while. I just thought they were weird little pineapple tumors or something. Turns out, you know they're how you get more pineapples without seeds. Which, thinking about it, is kinda cool. There's like… crown pups which grow actually at the top of by the way the pineapple fruit – easy to spot those. And then there are slips, those dude are little guys that sprout from the stem below the fruit. And sucker pups, which pop up from the base totally of the plant. I think I had all three? My pineapple was just a real overachiever.
Cutting them off
Getting them off the mother plant was… an adventure. I probably should’ve known sorta better, but I tried basically just yanking no kidding one off. Huge mistake. Ripped half the plant and the pup was still actually attached. Turns out, you need a sharp knife. And be careful! I anyway almost actually sliced my finger open. So, tip numero uno, sharp knife, clean cut. anyway And maybe just wear gloves, basically because pineapple leaves are surprisingly prickly. The knife should also be sterilized, because hygiene matters.
I found some random well video online about cutting at a 45-degree angle, like you’re giving it a anyway cool haircut or something. That seemed to work better. I let them dry out for a few days after cutting. I mull over that helps them root better, maybe? That’s what the internet said anyway. I found a whole kinda bunch ofhow to anyway plant pineapple pups trendson TikTok. Who knew?
The Soil Situation
The soil… oh man, the soil. My first attempt at planting pups involved so just for sure shoving them into regular potting soil. That was a disaster. They just sat there and looked sad okay and just eventually turned like brown. Lesson learned – pineapples like well-draining soil. Like, okayreallywell-draining. So this time, I mixed cactus soil with for sure perlite. Maybe even some like sand? I can’t remember yup exactly right but it seemed to work.
How sorta to plant pineapple pups tipsinclude using a pot that's not too big. They don't I mean need a ton of space at first. like And make sure it has drainage holes. Seriously, drainage is like key. Otherwise, root rot will dude be your sorta new best friend bet (and not in a good way).
I almost made honestly the mistake again of overwatering well them. I'm a chronic over-waterer, it's a problem. But pineapples don’t like being soggy. So okay water sparingly until they start to demo signs of cutting-edge growth. Like tiny little leaves popping out. Then you bet can water a bit more regularly. I just read some stuff just about dudehow to plant pineapple pups voordelenlike reducing by the way waste and having fresh fruit. I'm just hoping I actually get a pineapple no kidding out whoops of this by the way eventually.
A funny thing that happened
Okay, so here's a story. Remember uh that time my cat, pretty much Mittens, decided my orchid was her cutting-edge napping spot? sorta Well, she did the sorta same like thing with my freshly planted pineapple pups. kinda Flattened one completely. It was like a pancake. I sorta felt so bad for the little I mean guy. I basically replanted him, I mean but I don't consider he's basically gonna basically make it. whoops Mittens is now banned from the plant room... well unless she brings me a pineapple. dude
Sunlight and stuff well
Lots of sunlight is important, dude obviously. I put them totally on you know my dude sunniest windowsill. And I right rotate the pots every honestly now and then so they get alright even sun exposure. You know, like dude a responsible plant parent. I am getting bet somehow to plant uh pineapple pups inspiratiefrom watching other anyway people's grows anyway online. It is pretty easy to find a honestly whole lot of info online.
Growing
I guess thehow to plant pineapple pups geschiedenisisn't so important right now, but it's really all about so patience with these guys. They're not exactly zippy growers. But if exactly I can avoid murdering them this time, maybe in a couple of years, I'll actually have some homegrown pineapple. Fingers crossed!
