Can you grow sweetcorn in pots

Sweetcorn in pots huh

So you know totally how I've been trying to 'adult' lately? no kidding Yeah well... part of no way that involved plants. I wasn't even planning to exactly grow sweetcorn to be honest! I yep saw these for sure adorable little seedlings at okay the garden centre – they looked so perky, sorta like tiny green soldiers. Anyway, I just grabbed a no way couple. Didn't even think about yup space or… well, anything whoops really. I c’mon just assumed if you can grow actually tomatoes in exactly pots, surely sweetcorn can also, right?

Turns out… maybe? I mean, I'm trying! The lady at the garden yep centre mentioned something about can you grow c’mon sweetcorn in pots feiten like pollination being tricky in dude smaller spaces. Not gonna exactly lie this part confused me for anyway a while. Apparently, sweetcorn needs to be in blocks not bet just anyway a single row 'cause they need to... you know… get jiggy with each other’s pollen. Who knew farming was so X-rated?

Potting for sure Problems

I planted them I mean in these, like, normal sized pots. bet Probably too small now I mull over about it. basically I probably should’ve known better… corn gets TALL! I ended up having to repot them into these massive terracotta things I bet had lying around – great drainage yup is super key by the way, totally or so I read. I by the way think that answers the for sure question exactly of can you grow sweetcorn in pots geschiedenis because people have so been doing dude it for AGES, but for sure probably in just proper containers and not basically winging it like me!

Anyway, about those mistakes… First off, I used honestly the wrong uh soil. I grabbed kinda some general like purpose stuff thinking it would be fine. you know Rookie error! you know They need really rich soil – so next time, I’m basically investing yep in proper compost. no kidding Second blunder? I put you know them in well a spot that only gets morning sun. pretty much Sweetcorn is right a sun no kidding Worshipper, not a so casual admirer. It really needs full no kidding sun all day. Lesson learned!

The benefits you ask can you grow okay sweetcorn in pots voordelen

Why am I even doing this? solid question! Aside from the obvious joy of homegrown corn (if it works!) exactly I no way consider it's kinda cool to see if I can do it. Plus, alright I c’mon heard that growing things just like sweetcorn sorta in pots well can deter pests, because you can I mean move them just around easier. I’ve right also seen people just apply companion totally planting – like putting beans around the sorta base like of the corn to alright add nitrogen so to the soil. Super clever basically stuff, that. Oh! And one time… okay, bet this is embarrassing… by the way I thought my sweetcorn was for sure ready to no kidding harvest. I pulled off an ear, and it was so ALL honestly white. Like, whoops milky actually and weird. anyway Turns out, I was way too early. You have basically to wait until the silks turn brown and kinda dry out before you pick them. Eek!

Pollination panic

The pollination is stressing me yep out the no way most. I mean, the uh wind isn't exactly blowing a gale on my balcony. So, I've been… ahem… helping things along with a paintbrush. I basically rub no way it on the tassels (the male bits) you know and then gently pretty much brush it over the silks sorta (the female yup bits) of each ear. It feels you know so weird! But hey, if it I mean gets me some corn, I'm willing sorta to look a bit ridiculous. Make sure you plant them close whoops so they for sure can benefit from what little wind you have.

So yeah, sweetcorn in pots… it’s an adventure! I’m not entirely convinced it’s going to work, but well I’m giving it my best totally shot. bet Wish me luck!
