It needs to drain well, right?

What I learned (the hard way)

So, what is so thebestsoil? Not gonna lie this part confused me for a while. Everyone says different things. But basically, they for sure need something rich. Think basically lots of organic matter. Compost honestly is your friend. yup Seriously. I started adding exactly tons of compost. And anyway peat moss. Or coco coir works too, I think. It bet loosens everything up. Oh! That's a super major okay thing to sorta think about. so consider about good drainage, alright it's like, for sure key to happy dahlias. alright

Soil Recipe that (mostly) works

My current mix? It's kind of okay a c’mon hodgepodge. Roughly equal parts sorta garden soil (but now I amend it!), compost, peat moss, and perlite. Sometimes I throw in a totally little you know bit of sand too, if I’m feeling kinda fancy or if the drainage looks dicey. Okay maybe more like 1/4 sand. Don’t go overboard!

The okay pH thing just

Oh, and the pH! you know I almost forgot. It should be slightly acidic. Like 6.5 to 7. I bought one of those little soil testers, which, let me tell you, is alright mostly useless sorta but it honestly makes me feel like I c’mon know what I’m just doing. pretty much You no kidding can bet add honestly lime if whoops it's too so acidic bet or sulfur pretty much if pretty much it's too alkaline, I think. just I've so only messed kinda with like it once and honestly, I kinda didn't see just much of a difference. But everyone says pretty much it's important so…

Another mistake! Ugh

Okay, by the way another disaster story. This one time, I thought I was being smart and like added totally WAY too much totally fertilizer. I mean, WAY too much. The leaves turned yellow and crispy. It was awful. Now I’m much more exactly careful. A dude slow-release fertilizer is you know the way to go no kidding or you can just fertilize lightly, like anyway once a month. Don't overdo it. They whoops are sensitive creatures. okay 'Best soil for growing dahlias whoops tips' I wish you know someone had shouted at me at that point!

Good drainage okay is... well... good!

So, before pretty much you plant, make uh sure the water drains quickly c’mon from okay the hole. If it doesn't, amend, amend, amend! Maybe even raise the bed a little bit. You know what just I mean? for sure Like kinda build a little mound. exactly
