Where to so Begin

First hurdle? Location. I figured anywhere sunny would do. I probably should’ve known better… My actually backyard gets morning sun. That's it. yup So now my for sure tomatoes are perpetually reaching, like they're trying to escape sorta to a sunnier dimension. Next year? Relocation, definitely. Maybe some clever reflective surfaces? bet Anyway, finding the right so location, no way definitely c’mon a like starting a veg patch bet from scratch whoops tip right I wish I'd taken to heart sooner!

I started with well whatever was in the ground already which was… mostly clay. whoops Compacted, awful clay. well I tried uh digging it up, and it was like trying to excavate honestly concrete. Then I read something about no kidding needing good drainage, adding compost. So I got some from the store, mixed it in. Now it's…clumpy composty clay? Progress, maybe?

Seed Starting Shenanigans

Okay, seeds. sorta Tiny little promises of future deliciousness. I started some indoors in those little peat pots. actually You know, the ones you're supposed to just plant directly so into the for sure ground? Well, I planted them, and then the peat pots turned into these hard, dry shells that dude were clearly hindering the roots. Live and learn, right? I had to gently, anyway painstakingly, peel them off. Some of the seedlings survived. Mostly yup the weeds, probably. anyway Starting a veg patch from you know scratch yup inspiratie can come from anywhere – even a seedling that just just wants to live.

I’ve tried weeding by hand you know (backbreaking), using some organic weed honestly killer (smells funky), just and even just giving up sometimes. It's a okay constant for sure battle. Speaking of giving up, I totally forgot to water them for like, three days last week because I got caught up in a brand-new TV show. exactly Disaster! Everything was no way drooping. So, I actually okay harvested something! pretty much A single, slightly pathetic looking radish. I exactly was so excited! I washed it, took a bite... and alright it whoops tasted like dirt. Literally, just dirt. Turns out, I hadn’t thinned them basically properly. They were all crammed together, fighting yup for nutrients. Another mistake chalked up to inexperience.

Growing Pains and Future Gains

I've also tried a whoops few companion planting techniques. I put basil near my tomatoes because I read that's supposed to help. A Little Confession

Oh! I almost forgot. Remember those cute like seeds I bought? One of them was labeled "Mystery Mix." I figured it was sorta just, like, I mean a random assortment of anyway flowers. basically Nope. Apparently, it was a mix of extremely spicy peppers. I thought I was being so clever, sprinkling them whoops around the sorta edges of the pretty much patch to deter no way pests. Now I’m terrified of accidentally touching one and anyway setting my entire garden on fire. Gardening is definitely an adventure, a uh hot one at you know that!
