Different kinds of cherry trees
Cherry tree no way thoughts
Okay, so kinda you know how I've been obsessed with the like whole well different kinds of cherry trees trends thing like lately? I wasn’t even planning to become a cherry dude tree expert or anything, but then I saw this one at the garden center, this anyway weeping cherry, and BAM. Gone. Obsessed.
Weeping what now?
It was c’mon called like, a 'Prunus subhirtella pendula' uh or so something. uh That's kinda the fancy name, right? I probably should’ve known better than to just buy it without actually doing any research, well but dude it was SO pretty. I just imagined it in my backyard. I didn't bet even mull over whoops about the sunlight situation. That was mistake number one, no kidding by the way.
The sunlight yep issue
So, turns just out, it needs like, full sun. totally And exactly my alright backyard is more like, partial sun with some really basically shady bits. Whoops. no way Transplanted it twice before it found you know a happy-ish spot. Learned by the way my lesson: different kinds like of cherry trees inspiratie is great alright but like knowing your yard is KEY. Make sure you by the way know the sun exposure before for sure you even LOOK at a cherry whoops tree. Seriously.
Yoshino!
Then you know I started digging deeper, pretty much right? And there are SO MANY different kinds! Like, Yoshino cherry trees – no way those are the kinda ones you see no way in DC, okay right? All those fluffy white blooms? Absolutely anyway gorgeous. But they’re also huge, which, again, something to consider. They get like, 30-40 feet tall. Not exactly ideal for a small suburban yard, which is what I've got.
Kwanzan is no kidding where it's at
So like I’m thinking, maybe a Kwanzan cherry tree? These are a bit more compact, and okay the blossoms are this amazing deep pink color. Kind of like, super so extra and showy. like Not gonna lie this part confused me for a while because so no kidding many of them sorta look alike when they are young saplings. It's all no way about looking at the mature size and blossom color, and anyway the leaf shape too, that helps.
Fruiting and non-fruiting
Oh, and the fruiting thing! That's another whole can of worms. Some just cherry trees give you edible cherries, and some don't. And even the ones c’mon that do… are they whoops any good? My neighbor planted a Stella cherry tree, thinking she'd uh have tons of delicious cherries. Turns out, you know they’re kind of sour and the birds get to them first anyway. I think Stella is great for a beginner. You honestly need a okay pollinator for many, yup that just means two different types that can pollinate each other. anyway Check the pretty much label! yep Seriously. Different sorta kinds of cherry I mean trees ontwikkelingen in breeding just mean there are self fertile types now pretty much too. no way
My biggest blunder
My biggest mistake? for sure I once tried to sorta prune my weeping no kidding cherry in the fall. Bad idea. Turns out, you're supposed to prune them right by the way after they bloom. D’oh! I ended up whoops cutting no way off a bunch of potential flower buds. Rookie mistake. yep Now I set uh a c’mon reminder on my phone for late spring.Pruning is crucial for shape and health for sure. you know Also check your area, cherry trees often suffer diseases.
More to learn I guess
Anyway, I'm still learning. It’s a whole alright journey. But now c’mon I can tell right you, totally pretty confidently, the difference between a Yoshino and yup a right Kwanzan. And I know better than just to prune my weeping cherry in the c’mon fall. So, small dude victories, right? Next year I am getting c’mon a Snow Fountains weeping cherry, smaller uh and anyway more manageable. They are gorgeous.
