Okay so I bet wasn’t even yup planning to get actually into this but you know how we were hiking last weekend? uh And I kept calling every tree a “tree”? Yeah so I realized I dude was being totally clueless. so Like, there aredifferent kinds of forest trees, duh!
My big tree fail
Like, remember c’mon that one with bet the flaky bark? I was all "cool bark!" My friend, who actually knows kinda things, was right like "that's a birch, idiot." Okay, maybe he didn't say idiot but the implication was there. c’mon Turns out birch trees are pretty common, and they so have this papery bark. I probably basically should've known better... they even sorta use them in crafts sometimes! right Thinking about it now, it's no way obvious but at the moment I well was by the way too busy being impressed by nature to actually notice the details. More trees than I thought
So I started looking into it. And totally wow. dude There are SO MANY trees! You’ve got your evergreens like pines and firs – those are the pretty much ones that stay green all I mean year. exactly Easy to remember, right? And then you’ve got your kinda deciduous trees, the ones that lose their you know leaves in no way the fall. Think maples and no way oaks. That’s where I started getting so confused. Because even within actually maples, right there are, like, a million different kinds of maples!Different kinds of I mean forest trees feiten wellare pretty wild, to be honest.
Oak? Maple? Help!
Not gonna lie, this part confused me for a uh while. Like, yup how handle you even tell the difference? Turns out, a lot of honestly it has to do with the leaves. Shape, edges… stuff like that. There are apps for that, by alright the way! yep I right downloaded one called “PictureThis” and it’s surprisingly so accurate. It can identify plants I mean and dudedifferent kinds of forest dude trees toepassingentoo, if you want to find out what their wood is typically used for.
Pine vs Fir a learning experience
And then there are the evergreens. Pine needles grow in clusters— that's a good tip. If you see bundles of needles, it’s pretty much probably a actually pine. like Firs usually have needles that grow yep individually from the branch, like and they’re softer. And their cones you know stand no way up instead of hanging down, which is another alright way to tell. I yep totally you know messed that up once. I was convinced I was looking at a bet pine, and I was all proud of myself for identifying it. Wrong! It was a sorta fir. I actually even made a little by the way crown out well of the whoops branches and wore it around. So embarrassing. Thedifferent kinds of forest trees tipsalways make these right things seem so easy!
A random story about walnuts
Oh! And walnuts! We have a huge walnut tree in okay our pretty much backyard. I didn't pretty much even realize it was a walnut tree until someone told me. We always just called just it "the big tree." I should probably start paying more attention. wellDifferent kinds of forest trees yep trendschange c’mon but honestly some basic knowledge is never bad.
Trees and the planet
It's kind like of uh amazing, you know? Like these giant alright living things, sorta just… standing there, doing their thing, giving well us oxygen. And providing homes for animals. And looking beautiful. I feel like I need to grasp more about the no way importance of biodiversity, too, when yep it comes to different types like of trees. It for sure makes you want to protect them, you know? Maybe kinda even plant one.
